Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals. They sleep in a nest made from leaves, twigs and other garden material. A hedgehog found in the open during the day is sick and needs immediate help. If you can, capture the hedgehog and wrap it up in an old jumper or towel to keep it warm. Make sure there is enough room inside the towel for the hedgehog to breath then place it in a cardboard box or cat carrier. As soon as you can, contact your local rescue centre or vet. The same procedure applies if you find an injured or abandoned hedgehog.
